Warren County Sheriff Not Sure When Jail Will Reopen

(Monmouth, IL)  --  Warren County's sheriff isn't sure when he'll be able to reopen his jail.  Sheriff Martin Edwards told county leaders yesterday that he can't open the jail until he has enough guards to safely patrol the jail.  Edwards shut down his jail this week after a pair of guards left to take other jobs.  County leaders are looking find the money to pay new jail guards more, but aren't sure when they'll find it or where it will come from.

Searchers Critical Of Rock Island Response To Missing Boy

(Rock Island, IL)  --  Expert search and rescue team members say city leaders in Rock Island were too slow in asking for help in finding a still missing two-year-old boy.  Gia Hoffman with the Missing Person Awareness Network told the Dispatch-Argus yesterday that Rock Island's fire department didn't call for help till Hawk Newberry was missing for more than a week.  Newberry fell into the Mississippi River last week, but Rock Island didn't call for outside help in searching for the boy til Wednesday.

Central Illinois County Starts Safe Haven Policy For Addicts

(Bloomington, IL)  --  Add Bloomington-Normal to the list of cities with a safe haven program.  McLean County Sheriff Jon Sandage yesterday announced the new policy that will allow people seeking help for drug abuse to go to a police station and not be arrested.  The sheriff says the idea is to get people into treatment and not into jail.
