New Alert for Missing Veterans Becomes Law

(Springfield, IL)  --  A measure sponsored by a west central Illinois State Representative has been signed into law by Governor Bruce Rauner.  State Representative Dan Swanson of Alpha said that the bill will add veterans who are suffering a physical or mental health condition to an alert system that immediately notifies law enforcement and the public when a person goes missing. The statistics on veteran suicide are staggering. Over 20 veterans commit suicide each day and this new law is an attempt to get to these individuals in time before they turn to suicide.  House Bill 4212, passed unanimously out of the Illinois House and Senate, and will provide a mechanism for law enforcement to immediately respond to a missing veteran or active duty military.
