College and Community Support Help GED Students Succeed
(Canton, IL) -- In the past year, 39 individuals successfully completed their Illinois High School Equivalency (GED) through the adult education program at Spoon River College. Samantha Vanmiddlesworth of Lewistown and James Martin of Havana were two of those individuals, and they took advantage of local resources – Career Link Region 15 and Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois or CAPCIL, to help them succeed. Melissa Koke, program advisor for adult education says that both agencies are dedicated toimproving an invidual's job readiness. Both Vanmiddlesworth and Martin praised the strong and caring support they received not only from Career Link and CAPCIL, but also from the staff in the Adult Education office at Spoon River College. A new session of GED prep classes will begin Monday, August 20 in Canton, Macomb, and Rushville, and Tuesday, August 21 in Havana. Both day and evening classes are available.
