Hy-Vee Pharmacies Stocked with Flu Vaccine for the 2018-2019 Season


(Undated)  --  Hy-Vee, Inc. recently announced that the flu vaccine is available at its more than 250 Hy-Vee Pharmacy locations throughout its eight-state region without an appointment or prescription. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends people 6 months and older get a flu vaccine each year to prevent getting and spreading the flu virus. In addition, Hy-Vee Healthy You mobiles can be reserved for flu vaccine clinics as a convenient health and wellness benefit for a company’s employees. Clinics are typically held September through November, and can be scheduled by emailing workplacewellness@hy-vee.com. Hy-Vee pharmacists conduct a screening process to ensure that they are administering the vaccine type most beneficial for each individual. People at high risk of serious flu complications include young children, pregnant women, those with chronic health conditions, and individuals ages 65 and older. Medicare and most insurance plans cover the flu vaccine and other immunizations at no charge. Flu vaccines are available in Hy-Vee pharmacies on a walk-in basis without a prescription as allowed per state law during regular pharmacy hours. Hy-Vee pharmacists can administer the flu vaccine to individuals outside of the age-specific guidelines listed below with a prescription. In Hy-Vee’s eight-state region, the state laws are as follows:

    Illinois: Ages 10 years and older
    Iowa: Ages 6 years and older
    Kansas: Ages 6 years and older
    Minnesota: Ages 6 years and older
    Missouri: Ages 12 years and older
    Nebraska: Ages 6 months and older
    South Dakota: Ages 6 months and older
    Wisconsin: Ages 6 years and older

Each person who receives a flu vaccine at a Hy-Vee Pharmacy will also receive a 20 cents per gallon Fuel Saver discount, which can be redeemed at any Hy-Vee Gas location. In addition to the flu vaccine, Hy-Vee pharmacists are trained and certified in administering pneumonia, shingles measles and many other vaccines with no prescription required. If a person is not sure which vaccines he/she may need, Hy-Vee pharmacists can provide complimentary immunization screenings.

(Undated)  --  Corn and soybean progress is moving right along according to the lastet crop report.  After a week of about normal temperatures and rainfall, 95-percent of soybeans are setting pods says Illinois Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener. 94-percent of corn has reached the dough stage and 63-percent is in the dent stage.  76-percent of the corn crop is rated in good to excellent condition.  Statewide average topsoil moisture improved slight to eight-percent very short, 26-percent short, 63-percent adequate and three percent surplus.

SRC Holds Nursing Orientation

(Canton, IL)  --  A two-day orientation was held for 81 nursing students at Spoon River College on August 14 at the Canton Campus and on August 15 at the Outreach Center in Macomb. Besides receiving information about the available services and policies that all new students receive, nursing students also attended several break-out sessions where topics included time management, study skills, and lab skills requirements. In addition, all nursing students were required to be fingerprinted.

Community Concert Association 2018-2019 Membership Drive Kickoff

(Canton, IL)  --  The Canton Community Concert Association has kicked off its 2018-2019 Membership Drive.  The Community Concert Association has brought many professional entertainers and groups to Canton since 1955.  Attendance at Community Concerts is by membership only.  The Concert Association strives to continue the quality that has been its trademark for the past 60 plus years and the upcoming season is no exception.  The line-up for the 2018-2019 season offers a variety of musical styles and performances. The season begins with an iconic vocal quartet from the 50s followed by a tribute to a couple of country music's greatest stars. Next is a program highlighting some of the greatest hits of a legendary recording artist.  Rounding out the season is an area band playing music in the big band style featuring some of the big hits of the era.  All of the local concerts will be held 7:30 p.m. at the Canton High School Auditorium unless otherwise noted.  Memberships are $50 per per
