Congresswoman Bustos Applauds Passage of Bipartisan Bill to Strengthen Career and Technical Education


(Washington, DC)  --  Congresswoman Cheri Bustos has issued a statement after the House passage of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act. Earlier this week, the bill also passed the Senate. This legislation reauthorizes the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act, which provides federal funding for community colleges, high schools and technical campuses providing career and technical education or CTE\ programs. Bustos, who represents the 17th Congressional District in Illinois that includes Fulton County said that It is incredibly important that we prepare our children with the skills they need to get ahead,  The tCongresswoman added that This bipartisan legislation will help close the skills gap and better prepare our 21st century workforce by bringing businesses and educators together to develop enhanced training programs. She will continue to champion initiatives that connect hardworking Illinoisans with the career and technical education they need to succeed in our rapidly changing economy. Congresswoman Bustos, a longtime advocate for expanding CTE programs, joined Illinois Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi from the 8th Congressional District in the state in a letter this past November urging the Senate to act on this legislation. The House passed an initial version of the bill in June last year.
